There is a certain standard to follow with sizing and bar-coding included, but the initial design is still artistic in form and means. From cover photography to liner notes, and any number of informational quotes to be included, there truly is a lot of information on a CD/DVD cover.

Cover creation is very in-depth in terms of each artist you create for. Some designers may choose to follow a certain theme, while other's follow what they hear and how they are moved from the musical standpoint.

Personally, I feel the initial design has a lot to do with the basic pieces you are given to work with, as creativity and imagination have a lot to do with the end result. I happen to enjoy this realm of design as it affords me an opportunity to show off another creative talent's personality.
